Many times dewatering projects must discharge produced groundwater off-site due to the lack of storage capacity on the project site during construction. Turbidity monitoring is usually included as a dewatering permit condition to ensure maintenance of water quality in the receiving body of water. Turbidity monitoring involves the collection of water samples at the point of discharge on a scheduled frequency. If turbidity measurements are higher than permit conditions stipulate, implementation of best management practices and turbidity treatment may be required. Some examples of turbidity treatment systems include: turbidity curtain in receiving body of water, detention area with hay bales/rolls, polymer dosing, flocculent treatment, sediment tank pretreatment. |
