Groundwater Elevation Monitoring

Due to the nature of dewatering projects, precautions must be taken in order to prevent the induction of consolidated settlement of any existing structures near the area of work. As a preventive measure groundwater elevation monitoring may be conducted by installing piezometers to gauge the current water table elevations in the areas of concern.

By obtaining a baseline of the static water table elevation prior to construction dewatering, the effects of the dewatering project can be monitored as needed. In the event that proposed dewatering activities indicate a significant drawdown near existing structures, a contingent recharge system may be proposed to help mitigate the effects of dewatering.
