Due to the nature of dewatering projects, precautions must be taken in order to prevent the induction of consolidated settlement of any existing structures near the area of work. As a preventive measure groundwater elevation monitoring may be conducted by installing piezometers to gauge the current water table elevations in the areas of concern. By obtaining a baseline of the static water table elevation prior to construction dewatering, the effects of the dewatering project can be monitored as needed. In the event that proposed dewatering activities indicate a significant drawdown near existing structures, a contingent recharge system may be proposed to help mitigate the effects of dewatering.
